Vitamin K2-MK7 (also known as Vitamin K27, MK7 is derived from menaquinone 7) is widely regarded as the most potent form of vitamin K2. A recent study showed that of all the K2 vitamins, vitamin K2-MK7 is the most bioavailable version, being more easily absorbed and remaining active longer.


Vitamin K2, also known as menaquinone 7, is a fat-soluble vitamin, commonly referred to as MK. It is important for the health of bone and cardiovascular. Vitamin K2 is generally subdivided into the short-chain menaquinones (with MK-4 as the most important member) and the long-chain menaquinones, of which MK-7, MK-8 and MK-9 are nutritionally the most recognized. The activity of vitamin K2 is related to the length of the side chain, the longer the side chain, the better the absorption, the higher the biological activity, and the longer the presence in the blood.

Difference Between Vitamin K2 MK-4 and Vitamin K2 MK-7

Vitamin K2 contributes to bone and cardiovascular health. Therefore, two vitamin K2 homologues, menaquinone-4 (MK-4) and menaquinone-7 (MK-7), have been used as nutrients by the food industry and as nutritional supplements to support bone and cardiovascular health.

Function

1.Vitamin K2 MK7 is being used to cure haemorrhage caused by VK2 deficiency; promotes the formation of thrombin,accelerates blood clotting, maintains proper clotting time; 2. Vitamin K2 MK7 is being used to treat the degenerative bone disease osteoporosis. VK2 produces a specific protein known as osteocalcin which can bind calcium, therefore to increase the density of bones and to prevent fracture. 3. Vitamin K2 MK7 can prevent hepatocellular carcinoma in women with viral cirrhosis. 4. Vitamin K2 MK7 has function of diuresis, promotes the detoxifcation of liver and lowering the blood pressure.
