What is Salicylic Acid?
Salicylic acid (from Latin salix, "willow tree") is a lipophilic monohydroxybenzoic acid, a type of phenolic acid, and a beta hydroxy acid (BHA). This colorless crystalline organic acid is widely used in organic synthesis, and functions as a plant hormone. It is derived from the metabolism of salicin. Salicylic Acid is white crystal or crystal powders,no chemical changes in the air.Atmospherically sublimation temperature is over 76ºC.Easily to decarboxylate and change into phenol and dioxide when heated atmospherically,and its aqueous solution appears acid reaction,becomes purple with FeCL3.Slightly dissolves in water but dissolves in boiling water easily.Dissolves in the ethanol or ether and slightly soluble in chloroform.
