What is Menthol?

Menthol, is a terpene, the main component of peppermint and peppermint essential oil, exists in free and ester state, colorless needle-like crystal or granular. It is 8 isomers of menthol and their fragrance properties are different. L-menthol has aroma of mint and cooling effect used as Cosmetic Ingredients. Racemic menthol also has a cooling effect, and other isomers have no cooling effect.
